Farnham 1st XI welcomed Old Wimbledonians to the park on Saturday looking to build on their winning draw the previous week. Winning the toss, stand in skipper Jim Berry invited the visitors first dibs on the typically green wicket, prepared by Rob Dale. Dom Lloyd got the hosts off to the ideal start when he combined with Russ Golding in the gully to remove Smith for 10. This wicket started the quite remarkable batting collapse that saw opening bowlers Dom Lloyd and Rob Goldsworthy backed up by the young first change Luke Griffiths rip through the Old Wimbledonians line up and bowl them out for only 44. Wickets fell continuously as Goldsworthy bowled with his usual accuracy and Lloyd bowled the quickest spell the park has seen in a long time and got his just rewards with his maiden first XI five wicket haul. With Goldsworhty bowling through for an economical return of 1 for 19 off 13 there was no let up from the first change Griffiths who also bowled with good pace from his 6 foot 4 inches of height to ensure the visiting tail didn’t wag and finish with 4 for 5 from 3.4 overs. The bowlers were backed up well by the faultless Jamie Strachan behind the stumps who took 4 catches. Jonathon Sturges top scoring with 11.
Nathan Thorpe and Guy Hicks got the run chase underway but both fell cheaply to leave the score 18 for 2. Tom Flack and Jim Berry then combined to calmly knock off the remaining runs from the small total by 14:30pm to lift Farnham to 5th place in the league, only 8 points away from third place.
